Dr. Carrie Adams and PhD student Adam Herdman Invited as Experts for Chelsea Flower Show
The Orchid Conservation Chelsea booth is a collaboration between twenty-four different institutions internationally to feature native orchids of different regions. Adam Herdman and faculty advisor, Dr. Carrie Adams, were invited to participate as experts at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show in London, England. Adam Herdman became involved with the project because of his involvement in ghost orchid research, then being led by now faculty emeritus, Dr. Mike Kane, here at the University of Florida. Adam was first invited as an expert 2 years ago when the Chelsea Flower Show featured the orchids of Florida. This is the third year Adam has been invited back to spread the message of science and conservation. The booth organizers were John Parke Wright IV (UF alumni) and Lawrence Zettler, and Adam's undergraduate mentor during his time at Illinois College.
Dr. Adams and Adam have ongoing collaborations with many organizations in attendance including Chicago Botanical Garden, Illinois College, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Fairchild Botanical Garden, and Naples Botanical Garden. They have several long-term projects with Illinois College.
