2010 1139 - Jubilee Red
Growth Regulators Applied / Height graph
Graph shows projected plant heights during production of the crop. Dots are plotted actual height each week. Arrows indicate when PGRs are applied with details in the weekly notes. We use the “late” graphical tracking curve and heights are from bench to height of growing tip. Heights are plotted from date of pinching to projected date of finish.
Notes
11/23
We had some experience with Jubilee (1139) last year which was hot. In the cooler weather this year it also has performed well. There was some elongation in late Oct. during the period of high day temperatures, but that was easily controlled with the late Bonzi drench of 1 ppm on 11/2. The plants look good and have good stem strength. Jubilee appears to be a good potential improvement in plant structure compared to Freedom Red.
11/16
This crop is in good shape now. A few plants are showing pollen this week.
11/09
This group of 1139 (Jubilee) responded well to the late Bonzi drench applied last week and look good. They appear to be on schedule for finishing in 2 weeks.
11/02
These 1139 grew more than expected this past week in response to the warm temperatures. Plants appear to be finishing a little earlier than scheduled. To help insure the plants do not grow too much, we are applying a late Bonzi drench at 1 ppm. If this crop responds as expected, finish height will be in the 15-16” range.
10/26
This group of 1139 continued to grow at about an inch per week, which would put it finishing at about 16”. Buds are showing this week so the crop may finish earlier than scheduled.
10/19
This group of 1139 grew about an inch this past week and we expect they will continue at that pace.
10/12
Growth of this crop over the past week was much less than expected and now we will see where height is next week.
10/05
Average height for this crop is at top of the desired height range. If this were a strong growing variety, we would treat it again this week. However our experience last year would indicate this variety is not that difficult to control. So, we are not treating and will see where they are next week.
9/28
This crop is doing well and we will use a B-Nine and Cycocel spray at the medium rate of 1,500 ppm and 1,250 ppm. This should work to keep elongation under control the next week or two.
9/21
Last week’s spray significantly slowed growth and we will see where they are next week.
9/14
These plants have started growing now and we need to apply PGR to keep them from elongating too much in next week. We are spraying the medium rate of B-Nine (1,500 ppm) and Cycocel (1,250 ppm).
9/07
This crop looks good at this stage.
8/31
1139 is a new variety that we grew in breeder trials last year. For warm climates this has potential to be an improvement over Freedom Red. It has better stem strength and does not stretch at the end the way Freedom can. 1139 performed well under our hot conditions last year and in our Heat Delay research trials. We will start with B-Nine/Cycocel sprays and move to Bonzi drench as needed.
