Field grown trees should be lifted by the root ball

lifting root ball in basketMoving field grown trees into the landscape requires machinery. Trees are gently lifted by straps or ropes secured to the root ball as shown above. Lifting by the trunk can result in trunk damage that will cause severe injury to the tree, or it could kill it.

A 30 inch root ball weighs about 400-500 lbs.

A 40 inch root ball weighs about 800-900 lbs.
