Demonstrate low branch management
The Great Southern Tree Conference site in Gainesville has an extensive demonstration of low branch management. The trees in the row on the extreme right have no low branches; those in the center row have very short low branches; those on the extreme left (hard to see) have longer low branches. Trees in another row to the left (not clearly visible in this photo) have very long low branches. Trees in the rows to the left are growing larger, stronger, and faster. Click to the next series of photos to view close-ups of before and after pruning of these four low branch management techniques.
