Introduction to basic propagation strategies

Liners must be selected carefully in order to grow quality trees. Each step of the production process must be done with precision. Locate the point where the top-most root emerges from the trunk within the top inch or so of the soil or media surface if practical. Planting deeper can cause problems in tree species that do not produce adventitious roots along the buried portion of the stem. Roots should be pruned to elilminate root defects at each shift to larger containers or when planted into the field.
