tree root response to pruning

The two trees on the left were not root pruned. Those on the right had a 12-inch square of root pruning fabric placed at the bottom of the planting hole when trees were installed in the field nursery. This was designed to allow roots to grow through the fabric but stunt their growth by girdling them-it worked. Click to next photos for more.
