Stem girdling roots embedded into trunk

roots embeded in tree trunk

Several roots embedded into trunk as trunk and roots grew larger in diameter. A close look at the trunk directly above the root shows a crack beginning to form. This appears due to dry wood resulting from water deficiency in trunk wood caused by girdling roots cutting off water flow from the root system.
