Remove the stub

tree

Remove the stub once the sprout is straight and off to a good start. Some trees might have to be topped like this several times during prodcution. Branches often require heading or topping to create a dense desirable canopy. Remember that most, if not all, branches on a nursery tree are temporary in the sense that they will typically be removed by about 10 years after planting.
