Training trees for street tree use
I am not we will ever get to this point in the US but some nurseries in Europe grow trees with this form for planting along streets and in parking lots. Some folks there have an appreciation for the fact that all branches in the lower 15 feet will eventually be removed from the trunk so they keep them small from the outset. This prevents large pruning wounds from occurring once these low branches are removed.
