Lateral roots deflected down container sides

The tap root on this baldcypress was air-pruned which caused to stop growing. This forced lateral roots to emerge close to the surface. The solid plastic side wall of the container deflected lateral roots down sides. As a result most root tips were at the bottom of the liner container.
