2004 Christmas Feelings Red

Growth Regulators Applied / Height graph

Graph shows projected plant heights during production of the crop. Dots are plotted actual height each week. Arrows indicate when PGRs are applied with details in the weekly notes. We use the “late” graphical tracking curve and heights are from bench to height of growing tip. Heights are plotted from date of pinching to projected date of finish.

Notes

Christmas Feelings Red November 23rd11/23

The Christmas Feelings has made a nice shorter plant. It is saleable at this stage, but will look better in 3-4 days as the smaller bracts expand. The late drench worked well, but it should have been applied a few days earlier.

Christmas Feelings Red November 16th11/16

The drench put on last week is starting to slow this crop down. It should finish at about 13.5 inches with good bract expansion.

Christmas Feelings Red November 9th11/09

This crop is showing what a plant with little growth regulator in it can do at this stage in response to the continued warmer temperatures. We applied a Bonzi drench at 1 ppm today and anticipate the crop finishing at about 13 inches in a couple of weeks.

Christmas Feelings Red November 2nd11/02

This crop responded to our much warmer temperatures this past week. The plants look like they will grow at least an inch this next week, so they should be getting close to the desired heights.

Christmas Feelings Red October 26th10/26

All of the crop is showing color now and the plants look like they will continue growing at this pace or a little more the next week or two.

Christmas Feelings Red October 19th10/19

The Christmas Feelings show signs of more growth now and should elongate more this next week. First blush of color is showing now and the crop should finish about Nov. 23. We anticipate making the height goal.

Christmas Feelings Red October 12th10/12

Elongation in this crop is still reduced by the spray 2 weeks ago. The growth rate should increase some now and we want the crop to be a little below the curve next week.

Christmas Feelings Red October 5th10/05

Like several other varieties the rate of elongation slowed this past week. We are not spraying this week. Temperatures are projected to be cooler the next several days and we need to see how long this elongation rate continues. If they grow faster this next week we will still have plenty of time to bring them back into the desired range.

Christmas Feelings Red September 28th9/28

It would have been best to spray this crop at the end of last week as planned. However, Hurricane Jeanne got in the way and we did not get the crop sprayed. So now, the plants are growing nicely and are a little taller than we would want at this time. We are applying the standard rate spray (B-Nine/Cycocel at 1,500 ppm and 1,250 ppm) this week and will see what is needed in the next couple of weeks. We have plenty of time to get this crop back where we need it and do not need to be too aggressive.

Christmas Feelings Red September 21st9/21

We do not anticipate this variety being very difficult. We want to see more growth after the pinch before starting sprays, so we decided not to spray it this week. However, we do not want it to take off this week and be well above the curve a week from now. Thus, we will reevaluate this crop late this week and may spray it then.

Christmas Feelings Red September 14th9/14

Christmas Feelings is a newer variety that has a very upright growth habit and less than average vigor. In the 2003 examples, we only gave it one early spray. This year it was started a week later and we are aiming for a shorter plant. We will use a little more growth regulator this year and should produce a nice compact plant.
