After heading canopy branches only
After pruning the canopy
All branches in the canopy were headed. The leader is the tallest part of the canopy. Low branches were left intact because they were not long enough to shorten. Most low branches are only moderately aggressive so they do not need to be shortened. Leaving low branches long will encourage caliper development.
