Before pruning You might think it difficult to transform this tree into a quality specimen. With practice over a period of time you will be able to convert this tree into the high-quality specimen shown at right.

After pruning After pruning to reduce certain branches in the permanent nursery canopy back to existing lateral branches (using reduction cuts), and reducing length (using heading cuts) of long temporary low branches. Note how major branches (i.e. the largest ones) in the canopy are more or less spaced apart and alternating from one side of the canopy to the other. |
