Damage to the wall and walks would be much less likely if the trees on the right side were located on the other side of the two-foot tall wall on the right.

If trees were planted in the lawn area, they would have access to all the open soil in the lawn and would be much more likely to provide for a sustainable landscape design. As they are located now, they are likely to break up the walks around the trunk as they increase in size.
