Animation of structural pruning on young tree

The clip shows how a young tree can be pruned to improve structure. Stems 'A' and 'B' are competing with the leader. Each will be shortened a moderate amount, then each will receive a larger dose of the same pruning by making the pruning cut farther down on the competing stems. This makes the tree stronger than trees that grow with several stems or trunks. The dose you apply will depend on how severe the defect is, when the tree will be pruned next, and how much the customer will tolerate.
