Magnolia reduced
Two-inch reduction cuts were made on this 40-foot tall southern magnolia. The branches on trees that are reduced sometimes appear to make abrupt bends as shown on the left. This is because the upright portion of the branch was removed back to a lateral branch. The objective is to select a branch that is more or less parallel to the removed portion of the branch.
