Year one
Here you see a young tree topped twice in one year. Low branches have been cut back, not removed. The tree is essentially being grown in the shape of a cylinder of temporary branchces. Every branch on the tree at this point will be removed before the tree is marketed to the landscape industry. However, nurseries growing for the one-inch caliper market will keep many of these branches on the tree.
