Installing plants under the canopy

landscape plants under tree

Cutting roots when planting under existing trees can damage the tree. Adjust the location of shrubs and ground covers when they are planted to avoid cutting roots larger than about one-half inch diameter. Never injure the base of the trunk or the large roots connected to the trunk since this can cause major dysfunctional tissue and decay.
