Shallow soil and sidewalk caused tree to lean

failed ficus rootsThis tree leaned over in a hurricane (about 120 mph) because there were only shallow roots. The sidewalk (lower right in the photo) also deflected roots so they were less able to support the tree. The swamp in the background is a clue that the water table is shallow resulting in shallow roots. The tree should be removed.
