Crushed or decomposted granite as a walking surface
Crushed granite has been used as an alternative to concrete walks in many public places throughout the world. When roots appear at the surface and present a potential trip hazard, more crushed granite can be added to cover exposed roots. This strategy does not cut roots so trees remain healthy.
