cleaning the canopy illustration

Clean the canopy by removing dead, cracked and broken branches, suckers, vines, rubbing branches, and those that are crossed over each other. Water sprouts should be removed only for good reason, and only after the cause of the sprout growth is determined. Don't treat the symptom (the sprouts), find out what is causing the sprouting and correct that.
