Burls
are swellings along the trunk at one or more locations. Sometimes large sections
of the trunk and branches are affected. Causes of burls are poorly understood. There are no cures for burls and really no cause
for concern in most instances. I have seen huge burls on very large trees with no apparent effect on the tree.
