Jamielyn Daugherty / Ph.D. Environmental Horticulture
Jamie is a non-traditional graduate student. She works fulltime while working on classes and research at a distance. For the first two years of her Ph.D. program, Jamie worked as a Visiting Instructor of Biology at Florida Southern College. As of June 2020 she has transitioned to work with the UF/IFAS Lake Country extension as the Residential Horticulture Agent and Master Gardener Coordinator.
Jamie has had an interesting path that has led her to where she is today. She completed an undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. She then moved to New Zealand to complete a Post graduate Diploma is Ecology and a Master’s of Forestry Science.
Upon returning to the States she worked for the NYC Department Parks and Recreation as a special project forester. Here she was a part of the Million Tree planting project. She conducted street tree care educational classes, permit procedure presentations, and worked on donations plantings through the NY Tree Trust. If you are interested in Urban Forestry, she is more than happy to talk to you about her experiences. She became an ISA certified arborist 2010.
After just over three years in NYC Jamie decided to move back to Florida as a utility arborist. She has experience is both transmission and distribution work. All of this experience had given Jamie a unique background to teach from. She is an enthusiastic educator that wants her students to be excited about the topics being taught.
Jamie’s research interest is related to education effectiveness in Environmental Horticulture topics. She plans to conduct research related to extension education.
