2007 Prestige Early Red - 6"

Growth Regulators Applied / Height graph

Graph shows projected plant heights during production of the crop. Dots are plotted actual height each week. Arrows indicate when PGRs are applied with details in the weekly notes. We use the “late” graphical tracking curve and heights are from bench to height of growing tip. Heights are plotted from date of pinching to projected date of finish.

Notes

Prestige Early Red November 13th11/13

Prestige Early Red has made a relatively easy (considering the temperatures this fall) 6-inch crop to grow. The plants look good and will be better in a few days. The crop received 3 sprays and a late drench. The late Bonzi drench rate was only 0.5 ppm which worked well on this variety.

Prestige Early Red November 6th11/06

This 6-inch crop of Prestige Early Red looks good now except that they will finish a few days later than planned.

Prestige Early Red October 30th10/30

These Prestige Early Red plants slowed down as we wanted after last week’s drench. We will watch them because we may still need to do another drench.

Prestige Early Red October 23rd10/23

This Prestige Early Red crop is at a spacing of 12.5 inches and the leaves are overlapping which partially explains the amount of growth this past week. This week we are applying a Bonzi drench at 0.5 ppm, which is less than our standard late drench rate of 1.0 ppm. We feel that it will not take a high rate to slow down this variety that is a little less vigorous than Prestige Red. If needed we can make another drench in 1-2 weeks.

Prestige Early Red October 16th10/16

This 6-inch crop of Prestige Early Red is in good shape at this point and we will see how they develop this next week.

Prestige Early Red October 9th10/09

These Prestige Early Red are in a similar situation as the previous crop. We will probably do a late drench in 2 weeks and want only 2 inches of growth until then. We are spraying with Cycocel at 1,250 ppm.

Prestige Early Red October 2nd10/02

This crop also really slowed down this past week. Prestige Early Red is less vigorous than Prestige Red and we will now see if it can regain a good growth rate.

Prestige Early Red September 25th9/25

We were hoping for a little more effect from last week’s spray on this 6-inch crop. We are spraying with B-Nine and Cycocel (1,000 ppm each) again this week. Next week will be a critical point and we may need to do something stronger if they do not slow down after this spray.

Prestige Early Red September 18th9/18

We need to start slowing this 6-inch crop down to make sure we do not have significant problems later. So, we a spraying with the low rate of B-Nine and Cycocel (1,000 ppm each) and will see how they respond.

Prestige Early Red September 11th9/11

The amount of growth displayed by this crop is surprising. We do not anticipate it continuing this fast and will see where it is next week. We can not let this 6-inch crop get too tall early, but we have 3 weeks left when we can do B-Nine/Cycocel sprays if needed.

Prestige Early Red September 4th9/04

Prestige Early Red with the upright, strong habit and lower vigor makes a nice variety for 6” production. If it starts growing quickly we will probably make the first spray at 2 weeks after pinch.
