Hard to imagine what the point of this design was. New trees were probably not needed in this location because of the large healthy trees that exist several feet behind the new curbing.

Large maturing trees should be in a sidewalk cutout at least 8x8'; medium-sized trees in a space at least 6x6'; and small statured trees should be planted in a space at least 4x4'.
