Root sprouts
Sprouts sometimes emerge from roots under ground. They can emerge in a landscape bed or in the lawn and can be a nuisance. Some of them can appear some distance from the trunk. These are easy to handle when they appear in the lawn because they can simply be mowed with the turfgrass. This prevents them from growing into trees and eventually the mowed sprouts decline.
Those in landscape beds are more difficult to control because they can not be mowed. Cut them off back to the point where they emerge from the root. Some digging is required. If there are many sprouts, then this job appears daunting. Chemical controls that include synthetic auxins (NAA) are offered for sale to help control sprouts.
