Over-pruning date palms

back button next button

Date palms are often over-pruned in this fashion. This type of pruning stresses the palm by removing too much photosynthetic capacity from the canopy. In humid climates where these palms are now (turn of the century) being planted with regularity, this added stress could cause the palm to decline prematurly.
