Tap root was air pruned forcing more lateral root growth

Here is the tree one year after it was shifted to this one gallon container. Note the abundance of lateral roots growing just under the substrate surface. These were forced there by air pruning the tap root in the propagation container, and by air pruning in the one gallon container. See the washed root system below and the container it was grown in.
