Highways and turnpikes

Trees planted along turnpikes and highways need no special attributes other than drought tolerance. Large nursery stock often transplants poorly on these sites unless trees are watered frequently. Small saplings, seedlings, and even seeds are more appropriate without irrigation.

Trees with thin bark might be damaged more than thick barked trees when mowers and wildlife brush against them.
