accelerator container used to test air pruning

Accelerators were the containers we used to test the effects of air root pruning on tree growth. We eventually learned that containers like these with a high ratio of solid wall to holes deflect many roots and do only minimal root pruning. A ratio of wall to holes needs to be close to of 1:10.
