Caterpillars

Caterpillars on tree foliage can be troublesome under certain circumstances depending on the tree and pest. A few caterpillars eating a small amount of leaves are not a problem. On the other hand, total canopy removal in a week or two can cause tree stress and can lead to death.

Identify the caterpillar. This will help begin the process of evaluating the potential threat from the insect. There are some caterpillars such as fall webworm that cause concern for tree owners but for which control is unnecessary. See: More information »
