Stem splits from tree

The first codominant stem split from this planetree two years ago. Now the remaining stem fell over.

Treatment: Carefully remove the broken stem making a smooth reduction cut back to a lateral branch. Wait several years for sprouts to form behind the cut. Sprouts grew from the cut about 8 to 10 feet each year in the first three years after this injury. One of these can be chosen as the leader; the others should be reduced in length or removed to allow the leader to become dominant.
