2005 Christmas Feelings - 6"
Growth Regulators Applied / Height graph
Graph shows projected plant heights during production of the crop. Dots are plotted actual height each week. Arrows indicate when PGRs are applied with details in the weekly notes. We use the “late” graphical tracking curve and heights are from bench to height of growing tip. Heights are plotted from date of pinching to projected date of finish.
Notes
11/22
This 6-inch Christmas Feelings crop has also worked out well as a shorter plant. The late drench effectively kept the crop at the low end of the height range. The Fascination spray on 10/18 was very important to prevent the crop from finishing too short.
11/15
Last week's Bonzi drench is working and this crop should finish in good shape.
11/08
This Christmas Feelings crop grew more than we expected this past week. The weather is forecast to be warmer than normal next week. We are drenching with Bonzi at 1 ppm this week and expect to get about one more inch of growth.
11/01
The elongation this past week was still influenced some by the Fascination used 2 weeks ago. The crop looks much better now. We should be able to get a couple more inches of growth and good bract expansion over the next 3 weeks.
10/25
Last week's Fascination spray worked to stimulate this crop. We will see what they do this next week.
10/18
This crop stalled this week, which was unexpected. We are concerned about how small the plants are and have to make a decision. If we are going to use Fascination to stimulate elongation, the best time to apply is this week. However, in the both of the past 2 years, this crop has put on about 4 inches over the period of the next 3 weeks. We are applying Fascination this week at 3 ppm just to make sure the crop starts moving. Now, we have to watch to see if it elongates too much.
10/11
The terminals of this Christmas Feelings crop are more open, indicating that there is less PGR effect. Thus, we need to watch it and make sure it does not elongate too much.
10/04
This Christmas Feelings crop is also in good shape, and we will watch what it does now.
9/27
We are applying the low B-Nine/Cycocel rate (1,000 ppm each) this week. This crop will need PGRs and we wanted to do at least a light application now to prevent future problems. See the Christmas Feelings Red 6.5" crop for additional comments explaining our strategy.
9/20
We want to see more growth from this crop before doing a spray.
9/13
Christmas Feelings is a good variety for smaller plants. It has slightly less than medium vigor and good upright habit. Because so little growth regulator is used early in the crop, it can stretch some late which can be seen in the '04 example. This year we will be ready to apply the late drench earlier than we did last year.
