2003 Christmas Feelings
Growth Regulators Applied / Height graph
This graph shows height progress (y-axis) plotted over time (x-axis). Arrows indicate application of growth regulators, triangles are the actual measured crop height. The red lines represent the ideal height progress curve over time.
Notes
11/25
The combination of our warm temperatures and no growth regulator has resulted in the Christmas Feelings being a little stretched. Bract expansion is good and it has very upright branch structure. Pollen is just showing on most plants. The plant appearance would have been improved if we had applied a drench on Nov. 4. This variety also would be improved by adding a week to the crop time and using a little more growth regulator to keep it compact.
11/18
As with the other crops that were not drenched, these plants elongated much more than expected this past week. They appear to be seven to ten days from finish and we are hoping they slow down.
11/11
The Christmas Feelings crop is slowing down and should finish within the desired height range. It is seven to ten days from finish.
11/04
Christmas Feelings grew almost 2 inches this week and is at 14 inches. The shoot tips do not look like they will elongate more than about 1.5 more inches, so we are not applying a drench. Not drenching will also maximize bract size.
10/28
The growth of this crop appears to be putting it where we want the height. The shoot tips look like they will produce two to three more inches of growth.
10/21
The Christmas Feelings are showing color this week, which probably means they will finish ahead of our schedule. The plants appear to be on track to finish on the low end of the height specs.
10/14
This crop is growing nicely. It may need a drench at the end, so we will wait to see how it finishes.
10/07
The Christmas Feelings crop has started growing again. But it does not appear to be as vigorous as Mars and we are not spraying it.
9/30
Our weather change, in combination with last week's spray, has really slowed the Christmas Feelings crop, also. Like some other crops this year, we must now wait to see what the weather brings and how the crop grows.
9/23
The Christmas Feelings crop is doing fine. Temperatures the past week were not as cool as predicted. Today we are spraying the low rate (1,000 ppm each) of B-Nine/Cycocel just to guard against too much growth this week.
9/16
We are not spraying the Christmas Feelings this week. We want to see what it does with the cooler temperatures this next week.
9/09
Christmas Feelings is another potentially important new midseason variety that performed well in our variety trials last year. We feel it is generally medium vigor and probably does not exhibit late stretch.
