roots lifting cement

Trees can grow large in small spaces but the hard surfaces nearby often suffer serious damage. There is no way to replace this curbing back to its original location and save the tree.

Remove the curbing and surrounding pavement, raise the grade, and install pavers instead of asphalt. Do not reinstall curbing. In this way, when the roots raise the pavers in the coming years, they can be removed easily, the grade raised again, and pavers placed back into position. Try using washed gravel (3/4 to 1 1/4 inch diameter) instead of limestone to raise the grade.
