barrier zone develops

New growth begins to develop in the spring following the winter wound. The barrier zone has completely developed and is preventing the discoloration from moving into new wood formed after injury. Xylem interior to the wound site (blue zone) is stopped at the axial parenchyma and the multiserrate ray.
