Trunk breaks

broken trunk

The main trunk broke out in a storm, and a large branch split from the extreme lower portion of the trunk visible in this photograph. Most branches on the left side of the tree remained intact.

Treatment: The jagged trunk stub should be cut smooth and the tree cabled at weak points if the tree is to remain in the landscape. Consider thinning the left side of the tree or reducing the entire canopy to distribute the weight back toward the center.
