Pest control

Trees rated as pest sensitive can be planted in urban and suburban landscapes. They often provide benefits for a long time and may never succumb to major problems. The particular problem that afflicts the tree may not occur in your area. For example, some crabapple cultivars are very sensitive to scab disease, but scab may not be a big problem in your region of the country so the tree may not be affected.

However, trees rated as pest sensitive are known to have serious problems in some parts of their planting range. Be prepared to address these problems when planting trees rated as pest sensitive. Before planting, check with local tree specialists as to the severity of these pests on pest sensitive trees in your area.
