This
plant is sometimes grown in western American Gardens. Grows well in coastal
California gardens. Often found as an understory plant growing in the shade
of Redwoods and other conifers. They respond to irrigation like any other plant
does with faster growth producing a larger plant. Summer irrigation helps plants
through the dry period. They could make a great tight-canopied shade tree for
streets, yards and patios.
The
wood is considered semi-ring porous which means that there is some difference
in size between the spring wood pores and the summer wood pores.
