Teaching (40%): I teach an undergraduate basic restoration course: ORH 4932 - Introduction to Ecosystem Restoration that is offered in spring. I am developing an advanced Restoration Ecology course for graduate students to be offered soon. I am also coordinating our departmental effort to create a new undergraduate track in the Environmental Horticulture major on Restoration and Conservation Horticulture

Research (40%): My current research focuses on the restoration of plant communities in natural and semi-natural landscapes. Some of the questions involve: Are ecological restoration techniques effective in the long term? What influences the transition from invasive species control to native species establishment? What choices of species and installation techniques are reasonable for rapid revegetation of disturbed grounds? My lab addresses basic ecological questions with experiments in a restoration context. Currently, we are working on restoration of temporal ponds in the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge near Naples, FL.

Extension
(20%): My extension program strives to connect the native plant industry with restoration practitioners and land managers in Florida. Communication between these two groups can increase the recovery of restored ecosystems by promoting successful technologies and restoration practice.
