|
Enduring Red is very similar to Enduring Pink that has become popular. We used Enduring Pink in 2002 and 2003 examples, and a single early spray and a late drench worked well. We will use early drench applications on this Enduring Red crop

This crop looks good at 1 week after pinching.

We will only need to make one early drench application on these Enduring Red and will probably do that next week.

The Enduring Red plants are doing well and we are making the early drench http://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/floriculture/height2007/PGR.shtm this week. We are using Bonzi at 1/10 ppm and expect to see a good response.

Unless there is a surprise we will not put another early drench on this crop. Our expectation is that the height will be at the bottom of the curve or a little below in two weeks and then elongation will generally follow the curve until about Oct 30 or Nov. 6. At that time we will decide if a late drench is needed.

This crop grew a little less than expected last week and we will see where they are next week.

We expect this Enduring Red crop to grow at 1 to 1.5 inches per week for the next 2-3 weeks. We expect to do a final drench and will see how they grow to determine when.

This Enduring Red crop is growing as expected now. We plan to apply a late Bonzi drench when it reaches 14 inches in 10-14 days. The first signs of color is showing on about half of these plants.

These Enduring Red plants grew a little more than expected last week and now we are in a slightly difficult position. We can not take the risk of the crop growing another 1.5 inches in the next week when bract development would be adequate for a late drench. Also, a low rate drench at 1/10 ppm probably will not have enough effect. So we are drenching with Bonzi at 0.5 ppm which is half of the late drench rate. If needed in 1-2 weeks this can be repeated.

The amount of growth this past week was a surprise. We have more bract development now. So to protect from the plants getting too tall, we are drenching again with Bonzi at 0.5 ppm. The crop looks like it should finish on time.

This crop looks good now. The bracts are expanding nicely and the crop should finish on schedule.

These Enduring Red plants are in good shape. They should finish on time and within desired heights.

This crop of Enduring Red has finished in really good shape and compared to most of the other varieties has been easy to control. Like Enduring Pink, Enduring Red is not very vigorous, but has the potential to stretch later in the crop as can be seen here. With varieties like this, we like the strategy of planting early enough that a little PGR is needed, which produces a stronger plant with more leaves and does not have a stretched appearance. The first Bonzi drench at 1/10 ppm controlled early growth. Then in the high temperatures of October we got a little more growth than expected. Since we had to apply the late drench earlier than desired we used the half-rate of Bonzi (0.5 ppm) on Oct. 23. This was followed by another half rate on Oct. 30. This split late drench is aimed at getting control over height with minimum effect on bract development.
