Extension - 60% Appointment
As the Extension Specialist for Consumer Horticulture, Sydney Park Brown is
responsible for developing Extension educational resources for home gardeners. Fact sheets are
available at http://EDIS.ifas.ufl.edu or at county Extension offices. She is developing a
demonstratioan/teaching garden at the Plant City Campus, produces an on-line Florida Gardening
Calendar http://solutionsforyourlife.ufl.edu/lawn_and_garden/calendar/ and organizes and participates
in gardening conferences around the state.
Teaching - 40% Appointment
Dr. Park Brown teaches horticulture curriculum at UFs satellite campus in Plant City.
She currently teaches Environmental Plant ID and Use, Annual and Perennial Gardening and a Plant Propagation
lab.
Research
A research study on the effectiveness of weather-based irrigation controllers is currently
underway
at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Balm. Dr. Park Brown is the local coordinator
for that project. In Fall, 2007 a research/demonstration project on low-input roses will be installed at
the Plant City Campus.
